I'm thrilled to announce an upcoming concert with the Home Sweet Home Band with special guest Lisa Law! Come join us at the Stones River National Battlefield on October 20th. The Grand Master Fiddle Youth Workshop wrapped up in June, and we had a fantastic time! I am very happy to have been a part of the faculty, and am so proud of our students! Special thanks to Tyler Andal for all his help this year!

I was fortunate to participate in the Atlanta Suzuki Institute 2023! This year they offered online classes and I took an online class entitled “Revisiting Book 1.” It was a great opportunity to review all the material in Book 1 from Twinkle to the Gossec Gavotte. The class was taught by the renowned Suzuki teacher trainer Teri Einfeldt of the Hartt School of Music.

Teri has a passion for Suzuki instruction and shared numerous videos of her students with the class. I was inspired by her caring and thorough approach to Suzuki violin instruction.

Being able to interact and share ideas with other Suzuki teachers is, for me, the highlight of a Suzuki Institute. This year was no exception. There were eight of us in the class. We were able to observe each other teaching Book 1 group classes, and I came back with a wealth of new ideas!

The Grandmasters Fiddle Contest is one of the most prestigious fiddle competitions in the world. But the Grandmasters isn’t just about the competition. They also sponsor a kid’s fiddle camp!

This year’s camp was held June 28-29 th at Nashville’s W.O. Smith School of music. I had a wonderful time assisting the instructors! Crystal Plohman and Justin Branum taught young students ranging from beginners to advanced players the tips and tricks of great fiddling!

Congratulations to my student, Violet (second from left), for taking second place in the West Tennessee Championship Fiddlers’ Contest, kid’s division. Violet plans to compete in many more fiddle contests. I am absolutely thrilled and very proud of her!
